AS YOU WERE 1948

EDITORIAL NOTES

The preparation of AS YOU WERE 1948 a great deal is owed to the support and co-operation given by men and women who wore, and some of whom are still wearing, the uniform. It is their book. Their stories and articles express their views.

Their collaboration is gratefully acknowledged.

Without it the book could not have been produced.

Literary editorship has rested largely with Raymond O'Malley. The illustration and decoration of the stories and articles were undertaken by Walter Beaumont (who was also responsible for the layout), Frank Norton and Meyer Isaacman.

Harold F Ward and Charles A. Monticone have rendered valuable service in connection with production and distribution. The executives and staff of Halstead Press Pty Ltd have, as in the past, been unsparing in their efforts to produce a book of the finest quality. The assistance of all of these is also gratefully acknowledged.

Members and ex-members of the forces who read this volume are invited to contribute to its successor. Stories, articles, verse, and black and white drawings are needed. They should be forwarded to Director, Australian War Memorial, Canberra

They gave their lives.

For that public gift they received a praise which never ages and a tomb most glorious - not so much the tomb in which they lie, but that in which their fame survives, to be remembered for ever when occasion comes for word or deed . . ."
